Take a Break! The 50/10 Rule

Like most people around you, the thought of working straight through the day without small breaks in between seems like a daunting task. The mornings go by slowly, lunch doesn't feel long enough, and the afternoons drag on longer than the mornings. 

We found a really great article that suggests the 50/10 rule. It's simple: work for 50 minutes, take a 10 minute break. 

50 minutes is long enough to get a great deal of work done, and not so long that your mind starts to burn out. Similarly, 10 minutes is long enough to recharge, and not so long that you lose focus. 

The article has 5 main tips for making this type of schedule work for you: 

1. Stamina - As we mentioned before, a full work day without small breaks is nearly impossible. Taking a 10 minute break after 50 minutes of productive work allows you to recharge and come back with a focused and sharp mind. 

2. Focus - Don't let anything distract you during your 50 minutes of work. Put your cell phone away and zone in on what you are doing. The results will amaze you. 

3. Side-Productivity - Use your 10 minute break to do anything you wish. You could read a portion of the book you're working through, go for a walk, catch up on your social media - it doesn't matter what you do, as long as you consider it to be a break from your daily work tasks. 

4. Progress Tracking - When you break your day into 50/10 portions, you can easily keep track of exactly how much time you're spending on a project. Keep track of the time you spend and the number of projects you complete and see how rewarding this system really is. 

5. Mastery - When you keep track of the exact amount of time you spent working on something, you know just how long it took you to perfect it. Use your time wisely and you'll feel accomplished.

Your practitioner will insert needles as slim as human hair into your acupoints. After insertion, the acupuncturist might manipulate the needles by hand or by adding an electrical stimulant.

Although some people might shy away from this treatment due to a fear of needles, most patients report little to no discomfort and leave the treatment with a sense of relief.

The most common reason for visiting an acupuncturist is to manage neck, back, joint, or head pain, including the treatment of migraines. Additionally, acupuncture can help with nausea, allergies, menopause symptoms, and infertility.

Depending on the severity of your condition, your acupuncturist might recommend coming back for a series of weekly treatments, or he/she might suggest continuing acupuncture as a form of maintenance.

Regardless of physical condition, acupuncture is generally suitable for most people. It can help to treat the root cause of your malady and can reduce your dependence on medication and/or prevent you from needing medical procedures.

Some people might experience minor discomfort after treatment, including stiffness and/or soreness, but these symptoms are not generally a cause for concern.

What do you do to keep your body moving when you're at work? It's hard to sit behind a desk all day while maintaining proper posture and avoiding those delicious snacks sitting in the office kitchen, but we found some ways to keep you moving while you're in the office!

1. Tap your toes! Turn on your favourite radio station and tap your toes to the beat of each tune; this keeps your legs moving and your circulation flowing!

2. Take the stairs! We know the elevator is easier, but if you work on a lower floor and you're up for a challenge, try the stairs a couple times per week! 

3. Wait by the printer! Sure, this might sound a little bit boring, but why not do some calf raises while waiting for your pages to print?

4. Butt squeezes! Yeah, yeah, yeah, we know this sounds funny, but why not tone those glutes when no one is looking?! Just squeeze your cheeks together and hold for 5-10 seconds until you get tired and wait for the results!

5. Leg raises! Simply lift your legs, hold them in place for 5-10 seconds and then lower them slowly without allowing your feet to touch the ground. If it's not hard enough you can loop your purse around your feet for some extra weight.
